Lakes, Grasslands, and Mountain Roads in Ili

    Sep-2025 Sayram Lake, Ili, Xinjiang

Sayram Lake was the most powerful first impression of this part of the trip. The lake felt vast, cold, and almost unreal in scale, with deep blue water stretching out beneath open sky and distant mountains. It was not just beautiful in a gentle way; it felt majestic. Standing by the lake, the scenery gave me a very direct sense of shock, as if the space, wind, water, and mountains were all much larger than expected.

    Sep-2025 Guozigou Bridge, Ili, Xinjiang

After Sayram Lake, Guozigou Bridge added another kind of grandeur. The bridge cut across the mountain valley with a scale that made the road itself part of the landscape. Driving through this section felt cinematic: cliffs, forested slopes, curves of highway, and sudden openings of sky all appearing together.

    Sep-2025 Yining City, Ili, Xinjiang

Inside Yining, the city had a very different atmosphere from the mountains and lakes. Many minority-style houses were painted in blue, with distinctive doors, walls, and street details that made the neighborhoods feel lively and recognizable. That color became one of my strongest memories of the city: bright, local, and full of character.

    Sep-2025 Nalati Grassland, Ili, Xinjiang

Nalati brought the trip back into open nature. The snow mountains and grasslands formed a wide, layered view, and the scenery changed with the light during the day. By evening, the Panlong Ancient Road became especially memorable. The road curved through the valley and hills, and the sunset gave the grassland a softer, more dramatic feeling.

    Sep-2025 Duku Highway, Xinjiang

The Duku Highway, especially the Hashilegen Daban section, felt like a route through several seasons at once. Mountain passes, sharp turns, cold air, and broad views made the drive intense and impressive. Together with Sayram Lake and Nalati, it made Ili feel like one of the most complete parts of the Xinjiang journey: lakes, bridges, blue city streets, grasslands, snow mountains, and high roads all connected in a few unforgettable days.
