Altay Autumn Trip
Autumn in Altay

Sep-2025 Altay, Xinjiang
Altay in late September was exactly the right season for autumn travel. I entered Hemu through the Ahe Highway, and the road itself already felt like part of the destination. Golden forests, open valleys, winding roads, and distant mountains kept appearing one after another, with the light changing quickly across the slopes.
Hemu was the highlight of the trip. The village sat quietly among yellow birch forests and dark green mountains, and every viewpoint seemed to have its own rhythm: morning mist over the valley, warm sunlight on wooden houses, and layers of autumn color spreading across the hills. The scenery was not just beautiful, but almost overwhelming in how complete it felt.
Kanas added another side of Altay. The lake, forests, and mountain roads made the landscape feel broader and deeper, especially during this best window of the year. Traveling there at the peak of autumn made the whole route feel rare: clear skies, golden trees, cold air, and scenery that stayed impressive from the highway to the final viewpoints.
